Elaine Reh Berenguer passed away at Westchester Square Medical Center in the Bronx, N.Y., on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, with her family by her side. Elaine died after a prolonged illness and complications that she endured stemming from leukemia.
Elaine was born March 17, 1949. She was the daughter of the late Herman Reh and the late Mary Namey Reh. She was also predeceased by her infant sister, Judith Ann Reh, and by her husband, Raymond Berenguer Jr.
Elaine was a 1967 graduate of E.L. Meyers High School. She worked after high school for the Sheriff's Office of Luzerne County as a secretary. Her typing skills reflected training as a student at Meyers High School, as Elaine was always proud of the typing awards she received.
Elaine was most excited by the news of bingo events coming her way; she could hardly miss a challenge to compete and win. She loved her computer and had a passion for animals.
Elaine met her husband, Ray, in 1972, and moved to the Bronx, N.Y. Early in their marriage, Ray and Elaine started their careers in accounting while Elaine worked for Bell Telephone. After raising their two children, Elaine ventured into several small businesses, including Web designing, until the death of her husband.
Even though she struggled with her illness, the love of her children helped her through some very tough times. Her son, Ray, and daughter, Jessica, will undoubtedly miss their mother most of all.
Elaine is survived by her daughter, Jessica Berenguer, and son, Ray Berenguer, Bronx, N.Y. Elaine was also loved and will be missed by her brother, Joseph Reh; sister, Nancy Hunter and husband, James; her loving nieces, Mary Lavin and husband, Michael, Megan Toney and husband, Robert, Marla and Malinda Hunter; several uncles and aunts and many cousins, all of Wilkes-Barre.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be held at a time to be announced in the future.
