Emil J. Sholtis Jr., 65, a resident of Larksville, passed away early Wednesday morning, Feb. 12, 2014, at Kindred Hospital of the Wyoming Valley, Wilkes-Barre.
Born Nov. 28, 1948, in Kingston, Emil was the son of the late Emil J. Sholtis Sr. and Helen Natishan Sholtis.
Raised in Swoyersville, Emil was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1966.
Emil was the recipient of a football scholarship from Virginia Tech, attending there for a short time. He then returned to the area and enrolled at King's College, Wilkes-Barre, where he acquired his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration in 1972.
In 1970, he was a member of King's College Golden Knights Club football championship team and also named second team All-American fullback by the National Club Football Association. After college, Emil joined the Wyoming Valley Giants football team, playing in the 1974 season.
Prior to his retirement, Emil was employed for more than 30 years as a manager by Ollie's Restaurant, Kingston.
Emil had a great interest for various sports, but it was known that his all-time favorite sport was football and his team of choice was always the Philadelphia Eagles.
Emil is survived by his son, Stephen Sholtis, Wilkes-Barre; sisters, Marlene Raeder, Larksville; and Elaine Tupper and her husband, Carl, Larksville; brother, Joseph Sholtis, Swoyersville; grandchildren, Christian and Tyler Sholtis; former wife, Linda Boyar Davenport, Trucksville; nieces and a nephew.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a blessing service celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in Wroblewski Funeral Home Inc., 1442 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with the Rev. James J. Alco officiating. Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Memorial Shrine Burial Park, Wyoming. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday.
