Emily (Amelia) E. Baloga Jerista, 95, formerly of Madison Street in the North End section of Wilkes-Barre, passed into eternal life Sunday evening, Dec. 2, 2012, at Mercy Center, Dallas, where she resided the past several years.
Born Feb. 17, 1917, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Andrew J. and Elizabeth A. Andrasick Baloga. Educated in the city schools, she attended James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.
Until her retirement, she was employed by the local garment industry as a seamstress. Previously, she assisted her late husband, who was an upholsterer, and prior to that worked in several area lace mills.
Mrs. Jerista was a member of St. Andre Bessette Parish, Wilkes-Barre, having previously attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Slovak Roman Catholic Church, North Wilkes-Barre. She was previously very active while at Sacred Heart, and also worked with the parish parent teacher association for several years. In her younger years, she held membership in the Young Republicans in the Wyoming Valley.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Michael J. Jerista, who passed Aug. 8, 1999; sisters, Mary R. Brown and Sister M. Virginia (Irene) Baloga, SSCM; and by a grandson, Daniel Jerista.
Surviving are her children, Joseph M. and his wife, Barbara Jerista, Hamden, Conn.; Michael G. and his wife, Terry Jerista, Philadelphia; James A. Jerista and his wife, Mary, Allentown; and Mary Jerista Lampman and her husband, David V., North Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, Michael, Joseph, Adele, Jeffrey and Jason Jerista, Rebekah Armusik, David Lampman, Sarah, Andrew and Rebekah Jerista; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Albert F. Baloga, Scranton; and Alois J. Baloga, Dallas; several nieces and nephews.
She is remembered by family and friends as being a kind, loving and gracious mother, whose smile, strength and dedication touched the hearts of all those she came in contact with.
Mrs. Jerista's family would like to gratefully acknowledge the compassionate, professional care shown to their mom by the staff of Mercy Center, Dallas, during her final years.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jerista will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday from John V. Morris Funeral Home, 625 N. Main St., North Wilkes-Barre, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Stanislaus Kostka worship site of St. Andre Bessette Parish, 668 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. Michael J. Kloton will be the celebrant.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Dorchester Drive, Dallas.
Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
