Frances Gronkowski, 85, formerly of Lower Askam, passed away peacefuly Friday, March 21, 2014 at Birchwood Nursing & Rehab Center, Nanticoke.
She was born in Nanticoke on July 28, 1928 and was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Tokaze Racz. Frances Attended Hanover High School to the 9th grade and was a member St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre Township and St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church in the Hanover section of Nanticoke prior to its closing.
She was employed by King's College in their maintenance department for 15 years, retiring in 2004.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Leon, in 1986 and also by a daughter, Deborah Elias, in 2014; sisters, Irene, Helen and Margaret Pishnick and a twin sister, Dorothy; brothers, Joseph and John.
She is survived by a daughter, Doreen Michaels and fiancé, Scott Burroughs, Levittown; sister, Mamie Wanchisen and husband, Michael, Hanover Green; son-in-law, James Elias; grandchildren, Eric, Scott and Justin Elias; greatgrandchild, Kassie Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
Office of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church, Wilkes Barre Township, with with her pastor, the Rev. Mykhaylo Prodanets, officiating. Family and friends are invited to a viewing at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. Michaels GRC Cemetery, Glen Lyon.
