Georgia Tonkin Smith, 81, of Trucksville passed away Monday, April 14, 2014, at Celtic Health Care, Wilkes-Barre.
She was born May 21, 1932, in Forty Fort, daughter of the late Albert E. and Rose Patton Tonkin. She resided in Trucksville for many years. She was a graduate of Kingston High School, Class of 1950, and a graduate of the Hoyt School of Practical Nursing.
She was employed by Laro's Textile in Kingston and worked as a waitress for 33 years in New Jersey, Kingston and the Back Mountain before retiring in 1986.
She was active in the Brownies and Cub Scouts. She was a volunteer for Foster Grandparents from 1991 to the present in the Lake- Lehman School District.
She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Leroy J. Smith, Dallas; two sons, Roy A., Dallas; and James L., Killeen, Texas; sisters, Ruth Krimmel, Kingston; and Rosemary Putera, Indialantic, Fla.; and two brothers, Albert Tonkin, Luzerne; and Edward G., Courtdale.
Surviving are her sons, Michael, Dallas; and Timothy M., Hunlock Creek; daughter, Georgia Smith Simon, Trucksville; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Karl E. Blight Funeral Home, 392 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be held in Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Dallas.
