Hedwig "Edna" Bialek

Hedwig "Edna" Bialek, 99, formerly of Larksville, passed away Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at the Hampton House, Hanover Township.

Edna was born on Sept. 4, 1913. She was the daughter of the late Leon and Petronella (Moroz) Sakowicki. She attended Larksville schools and was a member of All Saints Parish, Plymouth.

Edna was a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her family and raising her grandson, Steven J. Smith.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years of marriage, Joseph J. Bialek Sr.; sisters, Helen Haracz and Leona Witkoski; brother, Joseph L. Sakowicki.

Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Bialek Smith, Larksville; son, Joseph Bialek and his wife, Susan, Larksville; grandson, Steven Smith and his wife, Jaylene, Lemont; great-grandchildren, Sophia and Jonah Smith; two step-granddaughters, Mary Lou and Sean Butler, Pittston; Carol Dempsey, Forty Fort; four step-great-grandchildren, Sean and Susan Simmons, Sara and David Butler; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Hampton House staff, nurses and nurse's aides, especially C Wing for their kind and compassionate care. The family would also like to thank Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care.

Funeral services for Edna will be held at 11 a.m. Monday from the Andrew Strish Funeral Home, 11 Wilson St., Larksville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in All Saints Parish, Willow Street, Plymouth. Interment will be in St. Mary's Nativity Cemetery, Plymouth Township. Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Monday.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Edna's memory may be made to All Saints Parish, 66 Willow St., Plymouth, PA 18651 or the Luzerne County SPCA.
