Helen Marykwas Sakalauskas of 101 N. Main St., Pittston, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, following a short illness.
Born in Jenkins Township on April 5, 1923, she was the daughter of the late George and Julia Yackiow Marykwas. She attended Jenkins Township schools.
Prior to retiring in the 1970s, she was a floor lady in local dress factories.
Mrs. Sakalauskas was a member of St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church, Pittston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Sakalauskas, who passed away in 1973; sisters, Mary Malenky, Anna Wojcik, Julia Capozza and infant sister, Janet; and brothers, Michael Marykwas, Stephen Marykwas and John Marykwas.
She is survived by her brother, Joseph Marykwas, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be Tuesday from Simon S. Russin Funeral Home, 136 Maffett St., Plains Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church, Pittston, with the Rev. Gary Mensinger as celebrant.
Interment will follow at St. Casimir's Cemetery, Pittston.
Immediate family may pay their respects from 9 a.m. Tuesday at Simon S. Russin Funeral Home. Friends wishing to attend the church service are asked to go directly to St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church, Pittston.
