Howard F. Sprau

Howard F. Sprau, 86, of Shavertown passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013, at The Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas, surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Frederick and Theresa Nagle Sprau and was a graduate of Coughlin High School.

Howard was a Naval veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Shavertown United Methodist Church for many years from the time of the family's relocation in 1951 to the area.

Howard was a well respected and admired self-employed general contractor for the majority of his life. He was a member of the Caldwell Consistory, George M. Dallas Lodge 531, Dallas, and the Irem Temple Shriners.

As his children were growing up, he volunteered as a Little League coach in the Back Mountain and a Boy Scout leader for Troop 231 out of Shavertown Methodist Church.

Howard was an avid sportsman who also helped many children with their NRA licensure, and loved nothing more than many days hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons.

Howard is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 63 years, the former Aline Blamire. He is also survived by six children, which are his daughter, Penny Lee Butler, Plains Township; and sons, Howard and his wife, Maureen Sprau, Harveys Lake; Duane and his wife, Sandy Sprau, Dallas; Robert Sprau, New Jersey; Kenny and his wife, Joan Sprau, Sweet Valley; and Billy and his wife, Jodi Sprau, Shavertown; 24 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Howard is also survived by his cousin, Ruth Metzger and her children, Poland, Ohio. 

A private family funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from Richard H. Disque Funeral Home Inc., 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas, with the Rev. Lynn Snyder, pastor, Shavertown United Methodist Church, officiating. A private viewing for family only will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday.

Memorial donations may be made to Blue Chip Farms or Shavertown Methodist Church in honor of his name.
