Irwin E. Messick

Irwin E. Messick, 91, of Tunkhannock, formerly of Dallas, died Friday, July 18, 2014, at The Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas.

Born in Wyoming, he was the son of the late Thomas and Martha Parrish Messick and was a graduate of West Pittston High School. He resided in Dallas most of his life.

Irwin had worked for the federal government with the Air Force in the petroleum industry. He retired after 22 years of service.

He was a member of Fellowship Evangelical Free Church and was also a member and past master of Landmark Lodge 442 F&AM, Wilkes-Barre, Keystone Consistory, Scranton, Mount Horeb Council, Dieu Le Veut, Knights of the Red Cross, Knights Templar, St. James Conclave, Irem Temple Shrine, Dallas, Oneida Lodge Order of Odd Fellows, and Dennis Strong American Legion, Tunkhannock.

Irwin had served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

Irwin was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Bachman, and brothers, Jim and Bill Messick.

Surviving are his wife, the former Helen Cole; a daughter, Sue (Keith) Harvey, Tunkhannock; grandchildren, Keith Jr. (Kathy) Harvey, Annette (Raymond) Kuzma, Ken (Sue) Harvey, Vicki (Steve) Tupper, Jennifer (Andy) Knox, Jeff Bachman, Jodie Bachman; and brother, Harold Messick.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday from Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas, with the Rev. Carl Dyrli, pastor, Fellowship Evangelical Free Church, and the Rev. Betty Reilly, pastor, Tunkhannock Methodist Manor, officiating.

Interment will be in Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Landmark Lodge 442 will conduct a Masonic service at 6:45 p.m. Sunday.
