Jack L. Dent, 69, of Shavertown died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2012, while surrounded by his family.
Born in Hazleton on Nov. 27, 1943, Jack was the son of the late Donald and Frances Tepko Dent, formerly of Berwick. His father owned a car dealership, and Jack had a lifelong love of cars. He graduated from Berwick High School, Class of 1961.
Jack met his devoted wife, Patricia Bednarek Dent, when he was 16, and they were married for nearly 50 years.
He worked for 48 years at Certainteed, Mountain Top.
Jack was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 365, and entertained his family with stories of the antics that he and his coworkers had over the years.
Jack was a member of St. Therese's Church, Shavertown.
His life centered around his children and grandchildren.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons, Michael and his wife, Linda (Harmer), Rochester, N.Y.; and John and his wife, Jennifer (Gribble), Dallas; daughter, Andrea and her husband, Scott Michalek, Dresher; and five grandchildren, who he loved dearly, Alex, Stephen and Victoria Dent, Abigail and Addison Michalek.
He loved to play cards. He and his wife spent nearly every Friday with his sister, Ann and her husband, Fred Samsel, of Berwick. On every occasion he got to play he would ask, "Do you wish to concede?" The worse he was losing, the more he would ask.
His sense of humor and long list of one-liners kept us all smiling even through his battle with cancer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Therese's Church, Pioneer Avenue and Davis Street, Shavertown. Everyone is asked to go directly to church on Monday. The Rev. James J. Paisley will officiate. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Back Mountain Food Pantry, 40 Knob Hill Road, Trucksville, PA 18708.
