Janet Mary Mullery

Janet Mary Mullery, 69, of Nanticoke passed away peacefully and surrounded by her loving family after a year-long battle with cancer on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012.

Born July 7, 1943 in Larksville, she was the daughter of the late Edward Oscar and Alice Young.

She was a graduate of Hanover High School, Class of 1961, where she excelled in athletics, including basketball, softball and volleyball. She also was an active participant in the drama club and was the lead in many school plays.

Janet was employed by Eberhard Faber, Mountain Top, for 27 years. Upon the factory's closing, she enrolled and graduated from Luzerne County Community College. After graduation, she was employed by Luzerne County Community College's admissions office for 15 years and retired in 2010.

She greatly enjoyed life's simplest pleasure, but none brought her more joy than sitting at the kitchen table with her family, enjoying conversation and tea. She was the family's encyclopedia for birthday and anniversary dates. She was always open for a night of bingo and never missed an opportunity to watch a crime drama on TV.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald J. Mullery, in 1989; grandson, Shane Obes; infant brother, Thomas; and sister, Alice Yatison.

Surviving are her children, state Rep. Gerald J. Mullery and his wife, Michele, Newport Township; Lisa Green, Swoyersville; and Shannon Mullery, at home; grandchildren, Leah, Lauren, Liam and Louden Mullery, Gary Obes and his wife, Jennifer; Holly and Nadine Green; great-granddaughter, Kasey Lynn Obes; brothers, Edward Young and his wife, Ruth; William Young and his wife, Madeline; Robert Young and his wife, Cathy; James Young and his wife, Sylvia; John Young and his wife, Barbara; and Gerald Young and his wife, Elaine; sisters, Lois Young and Elizabeth Antos and her husband, Edward; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the S.J.Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 W. Main St., Plymouth, with the Rev. Robert Kelleher, pastor of All Saints Parish, Plymouth, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery, Larksville.
