Jean Louise "Cookie" Zezza

Jean Louise "Cookie" Zezza, of West Pittston passed away Friday, June 20, 2014 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Born Oct. 13, 1941, in Pittston, Cookie was the daughter of the late Sebastian "Buster" and Jean Lashinski Palmeri. Cookie was a 1959 graduate of West Pittston High School, and a 1962 graduate of the Pittston School of Nursing. She was employed as a nurse by Pittston Hospital until becoming a full-time mom. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception/Corpus Christi Parish of West Pittston.

Cookie is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Gerard J. Zezza Jr., with whom she would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on Aug. 22, 2014. Additionally, Cookie will be greatly missed by her children: daughter, Diane Selkregg and husband, Dave, Macungie; sons, Jerry and wife, Doreen, Exeter; Steven and wife, Devon, Chester Springs; David and wife, Sheila, Downingtown; and her grandsons, Steven, Sean, Zachary, Samuel and Benjamin Selkregg; Jordan, Jeremy, and Aaron Zezza; and David Jr. and Ryan Zezza.

Cookie is also survived by her sister, Joan Moss and husband, Don; brother, Louis Palmeri and wife, Marian; sisters-in-law, Connie Rosencrance and husband, Carl; Mary Ann Zezza; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cookie enjoyed reading, playing games with her family, and a night out at the casino with a glass of red wine with one ice cube. Her grandchildren, who referred to her as "Grammy," were the light of her life and she never missed an opportunity to attend one of their activities. Cookie lived her life to the fullest, and she always enjoyed time spent with her family and friends.

A celebration of Cookie's life will be held at Recupero Funeral Home, 406 Susquehanna Ave., West Pittston, from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. A Funeral Mass will be held in Immaculate Conception Church/Corpus Christi Parish, 605 Luzerne Ave., West Pittston, at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The funeral procession will depart from Recupero Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. prior to Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the West Pittston Library in the name of Cookie Zezza.
