Joan Anna Ziemba of Plains Township passed away Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at the Hospice Community Care Inpatient Unit at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.
She was born Oct. 6, 1936, in Hazleton, the daughter of the late John and Helen Sullick.
A 1954 graduate of St. Nicholas High School, Wilkes-Barre, she was formerly employed in the local garment industry. She also was a part-time secretary for the Borough of Edwardsville.
Mrs. Ziemba was a member of St. Benedict's Parish, Wilkes-Barre, where she was a member of the choir. She also belonged to the Edwardsville Senior Citizens.
She enjoyed knitting, gardening, playing the piano, and made rosaries for the soldiers serving in the military.
She was preceded in death by her son, John Ziemba; grandsons, Frank Ziemba and David Glycenfer; and sister, Irene Borowick.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Geisinger Hospital, the Henry Cancer Center, and Hospice Community Care.
Surviving are her husband, Lawrence Ziemba, with whom she celebrated 51 years of marriage; sons, Frank Ziemba and his wife, Scarlet, Sarasota, Fla.; Lawrence Ziemba and his wife, Shiela, Wilkes-Barre; and Chris Ziemba, Kingston; daughters, Laura Lockman, Wilkes-Barre; Marilyn Glycenfer and her husband, Gary, Shickshinny; and Helen Toomey and her husband, James, Tennessee; 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Ellen Davidson, Warrior Run; and stepbrother, Freddie Lewis, Wilkes-Barre.
The funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday from E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Benedict's Church.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
