John K. Carr Jr., 71, of New Columbus died Thursday morning, Nov. 7, 2013, at Guardian Elder Care Center, Sheatown, where he had been staying.
Born Jan. 6, 1942, in Luzerne, he was a son of the late John K. Sr. and Abbie Van Buskirk Carr. He was a graduate of South River High School in New Jersey.
He retired from Robely Construction Inc., Boca Raton, Fla.
He was a member of the United Sportsman Club, Huntington Mills, and a life member of the NRA.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dawn Marie Carr, who died in 1993.
Surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy Sponseller Saporito, whom he married Jan. 24, 1987; five sons, John K. Carr III and wife, Gina, New Jersey; Robert Carr, Harveys Lake; Kenneth Carr, Dallas; Glenn Carr, Dallas; and Donald Carr and wife, Charitylee, Stroudsburg; one daughter, Debra Fabbrini and husband, Ken, New Windsor, N.Y.; stepchildren, Frank Saporito Jr., Kingston; Nancy Foy, Deerfield Beach, Fla.; Cindy Tapia, Kingston; and Nicki Shaw, Boynton Beach, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Lawrence Carr and wife, Leda, Huntington Mills; Charles Carr, Shickshinny; and Kenneth Carr and wife, Sharon, Palm Bay, Fla.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 23 at Mayo Funeral Home Inc., 77 N. Main St., Shickshinny, with the Rev. Mike Bodek officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.
