John M. Moore, Jr., 81, of Kingston passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia surrounded by loved ones.
Born March 12, 1933 in Wilkes Barre, Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his father John M. Moore and by his mother, Ernestine Thatcher Moore Drummond. He was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary Day School and Wyoming Seminary and went on to attend Harvard University
. Mr. Moore maintained residences in Kingston and Harvey's Lake as well as a cottage on Ballston Beach in Truro, Massachusetts on Cape Cod.
Mr. Moore was a champion of local business. He was a member of the Board of the Bertels Can Company and took a great interest in the Luzerne National Bank, and the successes of both enterprises brought him enormous pleasure. For many years he served as treasurer of the Harveys Lake Yacht Club.
Surviving is his loving companion of 45 years, Barbara R. Musnuff, as well as family members John J. Musnuff and his wife Kay of High Bridge, New Jersey, and Basil J. Musnuff and his wife Maggie of Hudson, Ohio. Mr. Moore is also survived by grandchildren Iva F. Musnuff, Richard G. Musnuff, Avery R. Musnuff, and Franklin C. Musnuff.
Mr. Moore enjoyed swimming, boating, sailing, trap shooting, and an occasional game of bridge. Quick to laugh and blessed with an inquisitive mind, he enjoyed nature shows, science and history. He was a true connoisseur of classical music, and his appreciation spread to a wide and eclectic range of music. However, nothing pleased him more than sharing his home and hospitality on Cape Cod with his family and his friends.
The funeral will be held at 11 am Friday from Edwards/Russin Funeral Home, 717 Main St., Edwardsville. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
