Joseph A. Speicher, of the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
He was born in Parsons on April 12, 1943, a son of the late Ellsworth and Kathryn Tierney Speicher.
A 1961 graduate of St. Mary's High School, he was a Navy veteran serving aboard the USS New.
He was employed by the former International Color Printing Co. and later worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Mr. Speicher was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains Township.
An avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, he was a member of the Sugar Bush Hunting Lodge.
He was a longtime follower of NASCAR and was a fan of Dale Earnhardt Sr.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Alfred J. Speicher, and great-nephew, Eric Speicher Jr.
Surviving are his wife, the former Carolyn Blessner; sons, Sean McDonough and his wife, Tammy; and Joseph Speicher Jr. and his wife, Amanda; nephews, A.J. and Eric Speicher; and sisters-in-law, Anne Cawley and her husband, Pat; and Maryann Blessner.
The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday from E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Ss. Peter and Paul Church.
Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.
