Joseph Antonishak

Joseph Antonishak, 89, of Wilkes-Barre passed away peacefully with his loving and caring family at his side at his home, on Thursday, July 31, 2014. His wife of 44 years is Evelyn Ruth Klemovitch Antonishak.

He was born Sept. 3, 1924, in Ashley. He was the son of the late Nicholas Antonishak and Katherine Iwanieu Antonishak. Joseph attended the local Ashley public school system.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in the Philippines, and was awarded the Purple Heart. He had the nickname of Sgt. Tony.

He was employed by the B.F. Goodrich Tire Co., Exeter, for 39 years. He was later employed by the Wilkes-Barre Area School District Lunch Program.

He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre.

He enjoyed weekends with his son, Joseph, and grandson, Jacob, at the area's flea markets.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Stephen; his sisters, Catherine Marino, Stella Haliszak, Frances Kulig and Mary Pasone; and infant sister, Anna.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his daughter, Maria Revak and husband, Kurt, and grandson, Jacob; his son, Joseph; and his cats.

Funeral services will be held at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday from Simon S. Russin Funeral Home, 136 Maffett St., Plains Township, with a Requiem service and Divine Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. in Ss. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, 635 N. River St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Paul Wolensky as celebrant.

Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, Plains Township.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. A Parastas service will be held at 7 p.m.
