Joseph M. Sakavage

Joseph M. Sakavage, 75, of Plains Township passed away Friday, March 1, 2013, at home.

Born in Plains Township on Dec. 6, 1937, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen Konigus Sakavage. He graduated from Plains High School in 1955. Joseph was a U.S. Army veteran. He left the service as an E-5. He was employed by Pennsylvania Power and Light as an underground foreman, retiring in 1990.

After retirement, he cared for his three loving grandchildren, enjoyed fishing, gardening and canning. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Miners Mills, and a current member of St. Benedict's in Parsons. He and his wife, Barbara Day Sakavage, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary Oct. 26, 2012.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Barbara; are his children, Joseph, Gary and his wife, Beverly; Christine and her husband, Mark Gozick; all of Plains Township; grandchildren, Chelsea Sakavage, and Marley and Collin Gozick. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Yeosock Funeral Home, Plains Township, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's and Paul's Church, Plains Township, with the Rev. Joseph P. Kearney officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Wyoming. Viewing will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday.
