Mr. Joseph P. "Joe" Baloga, 57, of North Wilkes-Barre, entered eternal life Saturday morning, Nov. 3, 2012, under the care of Heartland Hospice at Manorcare, Kingston, following an illness.
Born July 26, 1955 in Kingston, he was the son of Joseph M. and Sarah "Sally" (Lahart) Baloga. Joe was a graduate of the former Bishop Hoban High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1973. He was a member of St. Andre Bessette Parish, having previously attended the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Slovak Roman Catholic Church, North Wilkes-Barre, where he served as an acolyte for 10 years.
Joe worked at HUD during the Agnes flood of 1972, and more recently was a carpenter and mason with the Laborers Local Union 158 for 25 years.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors, especially taking his nephews fishing to his "secret spot" at the river.
Joe was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Sadie (Houihan) Lahart; and paternal grandparents, August and Anna (Ungvarsky) Baloga.
In addition to his parents, Joe and Sally, at home, he is survived by his daughter, Valerie Baloga, Brooklyn, N.Y.; sisters, Ann (Sissy) Hoedl and her husband, Frank (Bud), Wilkes-Barre; Maria Choman and her husband, Matthew, Hanover Township; brother, Thomas Baloga and his wife, the former Peggy O'Brien, Wilkes-Barre; his companion, Carol Gates, Wilkes-Barre; nieces and nephews who meant so much to Joe, including Kristen, Sherie, Heidi (Knorr), Stacey and Tyler Hoedl, T.J. and Sarah Baloga, Ashlee, Matthew, Kathryn, Christian and Jordan Choman; great-niece and great-nephew, David and Gianna Glover; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Joe's family would like to gratefully acknowledge the caring professional staff of Manorcare and more recently, Heartland Hospice, for their kindness and compassion during his final days.
Funeral services for Joe will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from the John V. Morris Funeral Home, 625 N. Main St., North Wilkes-Barre, followed by a concelebrated Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in the St. Stanislaus Kostka worship site of St. Andre Bessette Parish, 668 N. Main St., with the Rev. Kenneth M. Seegar, pastor, and the Rev. Monsignor John W. Jordan, officiating.
Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, Dorchester Drive, Dallas. Relatives and friends may join the Baloga family for visitation and remembrances from 4 until 8 p.m. Monday.
