Joseph R. Benjamin, 73, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at the home of his daughter in Hunlock Creek.
He was born in Wilkes-Barre on Nov. 5, 1939, a son of the late John and Helen Murphy Benjamin. Joseph served as a Merchant Marine and was later employed by Muskin Pools Inc.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Leo, Paul and John Benjamin; and by an infant sister, Rose Rita Benjamin.
Surviving are his children, Linda Rochelle and her husband, Dean, Hunlock Creek, with whom he resided; Brenda Kowalczyk and her husband, Stanley, Wilkes-Barre; Joseph Benjamin Jr. and his companion, Irene Kiernan, Mountain Top; Karen Murray and her husband, James, Wilkes-Barre; Benji Benjamin, Hunlock Creek; former wife, Betty, Wilkes-Barre; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Geraldine Ziomek, Wilkes-Barre; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre. Deacon Francis Bradigan from St. Andrew's Parish in Wilkes-Barre will officiate.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
