Josephine Mary Geist, 72, of Dallas passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, in her home.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Dec. 25, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Frances Zelinski Balas.
Josephine graduated from Westmoreland High School, Trucksville, in 1959 and the Nesbitt Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1962. She then went on to receive specialized training as a certified registered nurse anesthetist from the Women's Medical College of Philadelphia.
She worked at the former Nesbitt Memorial Hospital, Kingston, until her retirement.
Josephine was a member and past president of the Luzerne County Association of Lawyers Wives.
She loved reading, traveling to Europe and card playing, as well as cooking for a house full of people.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, was her husband, attorney Edward J. Geist, and brother, Rudolph Balas.
Surviving are her seven children, Valerie Geist, Park City, Utah; attorney Mary Jo Geist-Owens, Springville; Edward Geist, Shavertown; Christine Geist, Dallas; attorney Rudolph Geist, Bethesda, Md.; attorney Stephen Geist, Dallas; and Caroline Hahn, Allentown; seven grandchildren, Edward, Alexander and William Geist; Rudolph and Sylvie Geist; Catherine and Gwyneth Hahn; and brother, Philip Balas, Reading.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Therese's Church, Pioneer Avenue and Davis Street, Shavertown. The Rev. James J. Paisley will officiate.
Interment will be made in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Lehman.
