Julia Derr Malenovitch, a resident of Thomas Street, Wilkes-Barre, entered eternal life Tuesday evening, April 8, 2014, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, following an illness.
Born Nov. 1, 1926, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the dauthter of the late Julius and Anna Pesarevich Derr. Educated in the city schools, she was a member of the 1944 graduating class of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a seamstress by the former Maura Dress Co. of Wilkes-Barre.
A member of the former St. Francis Roman Catholic Church, Miners Mills, she was an active member of the parish Altar and Rosary Society, the Miners Mills Club, and the Plains Senior Center.
She was also the chairlady for the local branch of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union.
In additon to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Malenovich Sr.; a sister, Susan Trembinski; and brothers, Chester and Walter Derr.
Survivng are her son, John Malenovich, Wilkes-Barre; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Benedict Roman Catholic Parish Community at St. Dominic's Church, 155 Austin Ave., Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. Joseph A. Kearney, pastor, will be the celebrant.
Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Cemetery, state Route 115, Bear Creek Township.
