Lena Gregori

Lena Gregori, 100, formerly of West Pittston and more recently a resident of Golden Living Center, Wilkes-Barre, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

Lena was born March 7, 1913 in Pistoia, Italy, daughter of the late Alfredo and Giuditta Tosi and immigrated to America on the ship Duca Di Abruzzi in 1915.

Lena was predeceased by her husband, Gregorio Gregori in March 1950; as well as her son, Private Joseph Gregori (Mia-Kia) Korea, in November 1950. Joseph's remains were recovered in Korea, identified through a DNA match in Hawaii, and returned home for burial in West Pittston in August 2006. Also preceding her in death were her grandson, Keith Dzanis; brothers, Anthony Tosi and Joseph Liberati Sr.; sisters, Elizabeth La Nunziats; Mary Scelba and Dora Liberati.

Lena was formerly employed by Amelia Blouse Co. and Nardone's Restaurant, both in West Pittston.

Lena's favorite hobbies were gardening, crocheting and doing anything creative.

Surviving are her son, Alfred, Enfield, Conn.; daughters, Margaret Dzanis, Dallas; and Norma Frushon, Holmdel, N.J.; brother, Julio Liberati, Easton; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Anthony Recupero Funeral Home, 406 Susquehanna Ave., West Pittston, with Monsignor John Sempa officiating. Interment will follow in West Pittston Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
