Leona E. Kerchanin, formerly of Wilkes-Barre Township, passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Smith Health Care, Mountain Top.
Born March 12, 1925, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Stella Yankowski Stavish.
Leona was a 1943 graduate of Wilkes-Barre Township High School and was employed for more than 20 years by RCA Corp., Mountain Top, until retiring in 1984.
She was a member of Our Lady of Hope Parish, Wilkes-Barre, and formerly a member of St. Joseph's Church, Wilkes-Barre Township.
She was active in the Georgetown Women's Club and Georgetown Settlement Camp.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael, in 1995; grandsons, Thomas and Michael; brothers, Stanley, Lawrence, and Richard Stavish; and sisters, Regina Stavish, Helen Remakus, Jean Honnis and Florence Verberg.
Surviving are her daughters, Michaline Adamczyk and her husband, Thomas, Mountain Top; Elaine Sherman and her husband, Barry, North Aurora, Ill.; Sandra Jachim and her husband, Larry, Mountain Top; Joanne Lach and her husband, Michael, Hawthorne Woods, Ill.; and Lynn Melan and her husband, Robert, Ellicott, Md.; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie Pilch, Wilkes-Barre; Gerry Bedrin, Georgia; and Dolores Wozniak, Georgia; brothers, Leo and Edward Stavish, Florida; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday from Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, 21 N. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Parish, 40 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. John S. Terry, pastor, will be the celebrant. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
