Mamie L. George (Georgie), a resident of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, a guest of the Little Flower Manor.
She was born July 7, 1923, in Wilkes-Barre to the late Joseph and Helen Isaac George. She graduated from GAR High School.
She was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and was a qualified CAP radio operator. She left Wilkes-Barre several years later to work in the defense plant in Buffalo, N.Y. She remained in Buffalo for many years, attended Buffalo Secretarial College and was employed by Sanders Associates Inc. She relocated with the company to New Hampshire as supervisor of the clerical department until her retirement from Sanders Associates Inc.
Mamie took a great interest in government affairs and was active with the local Nashua Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Kathryn H. and husband, Leo Pipech; sister, Carol A. Marinetti; brother, Joseph George; brothers-in-law, Daniel Volovic and Joseph J. Fluegel; and nephew, Leo Pipech.
She is survived by her siblings, Leila Yenchak and husband, John, Margaret Volovic, Josephine F. Fluegel, Anthony and wife, Paulette Baynock George, and Francis and wife, Marie Angelella George, all of Wilkes-Barre; sister-in-law, Mary Kay George, Ohio; brother-in-law, Ralph Marinetti, Easton; 30 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Private funeral arrangements were entrusted to Mamary-Durkin Funeral Service, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial from St. Anthony's Maronite Church, Wilkes-Barre, and interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
