Margaret C. Chupka

Margaret Cecelia Chupka, of Hanover Township, passed away Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at her home.

She was born in Wilkes-Barre. She was the daughter of the late Andrew J. (1964) and Sophie C. Demsky Chupka (1997). She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Slovak Elementary School and a graduate of E.L. Meyers High School, Class of 1939, and also attended Wilkes College.

She was employed by the Wilkes-Barre Lace Mfg. Co. and the Susquehanna Savings and Loan Assn., later known as Atlantic Financial, until her retirement in 1983.

She was a member of the former Sacred Heart Slovak Church, known now as St. Andre Bessette Parish, Wilkes-Barre.

She was a member of the Sodality C.D.A., Ct. St. Ann #1294, Slovak Catholic Federation, the Catholic Daughter Choir, Heritage Choir, Slovak Heritage Society of NEPA, Sacred Heart Foundation Inc., Wilkes-Barre, whose mission was to preserve Sacred Heart Church, and the Fr. Murgas artifacts of Slovak heritage.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Catherine T. Broderick (2013); Helen P. Durkes (2001); her brother, Joseph A. Chupka (1964).

Surviving are her sisters, Mary and Theresa Chupka, at home; brother-in-law, George Broderick; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial is at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Andre Bessette Parish/St. Stanislaus Church, 666 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Slovak Cemetery, Dallas. Family and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to the charity of the donors' choice or the Sisters of Ss. Cyril & Methodius Retirement Fund, Villa Sacred Heart, 580 Railroad St., Danville, PA 17821.
