Margaret (Peggy) Larkin, 91, of the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 25, 2013 surrounded by her loving family at the Hospice Community Care Inpatient Unit at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.
She was born in Wilkes-Barre on April 27, 1922, a daughter of the late Owen and Margaret Walsh McHugh. Peggy was a graduate of the former St. Mary's High School and was one of the original members of the Boomers' Girls Club. She was a member of St. Benedict's Parish, St. Dominic's Church for 48 years. Peggy was "Gram" to dozens of her grandchildren and their friends. Her home was the central gathering place for her large family to celebrate special occasions and ordinary Sundays. She was a dedicated wife for 54 years to John (Jack) Larkin who predeceased her on July 19, 2000.
Surviving are her children, John Larkin and his wife, Gerry; Peggy Ann Martin and her husband, Andy; Mary Hayward and her companion, Mike; Patrick Larkin and his wife, Lisa; Kathleen Kowalski and her husband, Albert; Ann Cherinko, and Ellen Havrilla and her husband, Mike; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild will miss her dearly.
The funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Benedict's Church, Austin Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday.
