Marie C. Heidel

Marie C. Heidel, 87, formerly of Shavertown, peacefully passed away Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Lakeside Health and Rehabilitation Center, Dallas.

She was born in Larksville on Feb. 22, 1926. She was the daughter of the late George and Anna Medar Ontko.

She was educated in the Larksville schools and was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Pringle.

Marie began working at 17 and continued for several years, until she chose to spend her time at home. She returned to work in the early 1960s in the cafeteria of the Dallas Senior High School, until her retirement.

Marie married Harold Heidel in 1946 and together they built a home in Shavertown and raised their three daughters. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on May 25, 2001, 16 days before Harold passed away.

Marie spent her entire life taking care of her family and making their lives special. She was a selfless person who made herself available at a moment's notice. She loved to bake, was an avid bowler and polka dancer as a young woman. But mostly she gave all of us wonderful memories that will remain. She will be sorely missed and in our hearts forever.

Along with her parents and beloved husband, Harold, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Reba, who passed away August 2008; her daughter, Elaine, who passed away June 2011; and a sister, Katherine, who passed away February 2012.

Surviving are her daughter, Donna Patton; her brother, Stephen Ontko and wife, Alberta; sister, Irene Evans; sister, Georgette Scutch and husband, Frank; grandchildren, Jennifer Duesler and husband, Sean, Adam Yarnal and wife, Brooke, Jesse Yarnal and wife, Heidi, Christa Gehr and husband, Jonathan, Lauren Cable and husband, Chris, and Cory Patton; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Andrew Strish Funeral Home, 11 Wilson St., Larksville, with the Rev. Craig Mark officiating.

Interment will follow in Dennison Cemetery.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday.

Her family would like to thank the entire staff at Lakeside Health and Rehabilitation Center for their constant support and wonderful care.
