Mary A. Steininger, 86, of Wilkes-Barre passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre.
She was born in Wilkes-Barre on Nov. 13, 1927, a daughter of the late Ludwig and Maria Lichtenauer Steininger.
Mary attended GAR. Memorial High School.
She was formerly employed by the local silk mills, having worked at Hess & Goldsmith and Rolane's.
Mary was a life member of St. Boniface Church in Wilkes-Barre and its Altar & Rosary Society.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Steininger, and by her brother, Joseph Steininger. She was also preceded in death by her fiancé, Frank Harkins; brother-in-law, John Barvitsky; and nephews, Jude and Richard Steininger.
Mary is survived by her brother, Ludwig Steininger and his wife, Irene, Wilkes-Barre; sisters, Katherine Ferrance and her husband, Hayden, Binghamton, N.Y.; and Theresa Barvitsky, Wilkes-Barre; and sister-in-law, Mary Steininger, Wilkes-Barre. Aunt Mamie will be sadly missed by her numerous nieces and nephews, and her godchildren, Joseph Steininger Sr., Renee Wood, Kimberly Ferrance, Lee Allen Berzinskas and Robert Eckert.
Mary's family would like to thank the nurses and the entire staff at Little Flower Manor for the compassionate care that they provided.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Little Flower Manor, 200 S. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre. Those attending the Mass are asked to go directly to Little Flower Manor on Saturday.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Little Flower Manor, 200 S. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre.
