Mary Ann Savitsky Iskra

Mary Ann Savitsky Iskra, 68, of West Chestnut Street in the North End section of Wilkes-Barre, passed into eternal life Monday evening, New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, 2012, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital surrounded by her loving family, following a prolonged illness.

Born Nov. 15, 1944, in Plains Township, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Stella D'Mohowski Savitsky.

Educated in Plains Township schools, she was a graduate of the former Plains High School. She furthered her education by attaining a licence in cosmetology.

In her younger days, she was previously employed by the former Hess's Department Store at the Wyoming Valley Mall. More recently, she is remembered by those who knew and loved her as being a caring, devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her beloved family. She had a deep and reverent devotion to her faith which was thought as an inspiration and influence on those who she would come in contact with in her daily life.

She and her husband, Mr. Thomas G. Iskra Sr., celebrated 47 years of married life this past May 1.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, Thomas, at home, are their children and their spouses, Thomas G. Iskra Jr. and his wife, Lisa; David S. Iskra Sr. and his wife, Amy; Debbie Francis and her husband, Clifford; and Bernadette Jacob and her husband, Jeff, all of Wilkes-Barre; 11 grandchildren who were the joys of her life, including Maureen, Julia and Thomas Iskra; Melissa, Cliff Jr., Justin and Jeremy Francis; David Jr., Courtney, Jenna and Ryan Iskra; sisters, Nancy Swiecicki and her husband, Stanley, Saylorsburg; Joan Savitsky; Patricia Brady and her husband, Matthew, all of Plains Township; and Susan Zbierski and her husband, Robert, Hudson; brother, Robert Savitsky and his wife, Kathy, Plains Township; her aunt and godmother, Mrs. Josie Vegso, New Jersey; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Iskra will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Friday from John V. Morris Funeral Home North Wilkes-Barre Chapel, 625 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m in the St. Stanislaus Kostka worship site of St. Andre Bessette Parish, 668 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. Joseph M. Horanzy, pastor emeritus of the former St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, will be the celebrant.

Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, Blanchard and Cemetery streets, Plains Township.

Relatives and friends may join the Iskra family for visitation and remembrances from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
