Mary Friel, 96, of Wilkes-Barre passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at ManorCare Health Services, Kingston.
She was born in Wilkes-Barre on Aug. 26, 1916, a daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Horvath Sipos.
Mary was formerly employed by the local garment industry, having worked at Val's Sportswear and Margie Kay's in Wilkes-Barre.
She was a longtime member of Holy Saviour Church and its Altar and Rosary Society in Wilkes-Barre.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Friel, in 1988; by her brother, Andrew Sipos; and sisters, Elizabeth Papciak, Helen Fugok and Anna Uravage.
Surviving are her sons, Edmund Friel, Dover, N.J.; Joseph Friel, San Diego, Calif.; and James Friel, Salem, N.H.; daughter, Marilyn Horn, Florida; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday from Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. in St. Andre Bessette Parish at Holy Saviour Church, 54 Hillard St., Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
