Mary J. Hrab

Mary J. Hrab, 85, of Dan Flood Tower, Kingston, and more recently of Wesley Village, Jenkins Township, died peacefully Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, in Geisinger Medical Center.

Born in Pittston on Jan. 6, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Saporito Sr. and the late Josephine Raymond Saporito. She resided in Pittston most of her life, later settling in Dallas.

She was educated in Pittston City schools and worked in the garment industry in Pittston until her retirement.

She was a member of St. Ignatius Church, Kingston, and was active with the Wyoming Valley Association of the Blind. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, Dupont.

She was a past member and past president of the Montedoro Society, Pittston, and the Polka Jets.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen J. Hrab, in 1970; brothers, Joseph Saporito, who resided all of his life in Sicily; Martin, Samuel and Angelo "Bubby" Saporito, all of Pittston; sisters, Pauline Licata, Pittston; Assunta "Suzie" Capitano, Plains Township; Lillian DeWolfe, Jackson, Mich. Another sister died while an infant. She was also preceded in death by Ralph Murdock, her companion in her later years.

She is survived by four daughters: Mary Kay Ackerman, Pittston; Elizabeth (Betty Ann) Kandrac, N.C.; Joann Gromala, Jenkins Township; and Margo Magda, Bear Creek; seven grandchildren, Stephen and Joseph Gromala, Sarah (Kandrac) Wilson, DMD, John Kandrac, Alicia Magda, Greta Ackerman, and Michael Ackerman; several nieces and nephews.

Services have been entrusted to Graziano Funeral Home Inc., Pittston Township.

Viewing hours will be held at the funeral home Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will begin at the funeral home Tuesday at 9 a.m. (Those who plan on attending should be at the funeral home no later than 8:30 a.m.)

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Joseph Marello Parish, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, William Street, Pittston, at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Interment will be in Pittston Cemetery.
