Michael Dunay of Swoyersville passed away Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
Born in Duryea, he was a son of the late Martin and Anna Dunay.
Michael was a member of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne.
He was an Army
veteran of World War II
. He was also a member of American Legion Post 644, Swoyersville.
Prior to retirement, he was employed as an upholster by Nelson Furniture of Wyoming and Kingston.
Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Anna; his daughter-in-law, Bonnie Dunay; and a brother, Albert.
Surviving are his children, Christine Placek, South Abington Township; JoAnn Sorber, Shickshinny; Donna Sherrill, Swoyersville; and Joseph Dunay, Cicero, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sisters, Pauline Vitek, Theresa Mascga, Verne Reese, Helen Chiampi, Irene Kosik, Anna Brieg, and Ruth Pernot; and brothers, Martin (Frank), Paul and Joseph Dunay.
The funeral for Michael will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday from Lehman-Gregory Funeral Home Inc., 281 Chapel St., Swoyersville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Parish, Bennett Street, Luzerne.
Interment will be held in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.
The family requests no flowers and that donations be sent to the Food Pantry at Holy Family Parish, 574 Bennett St., Luzerne.
