Michael Leon Reid Sr., 57, of Wilkes-Barre passed away Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
Born in New York City on Nov. 15, 1956, he was a son of Betty Hines Reid of Scranton and the late Nathan Reid.
He was an Army
veteran of the Vietnam War
era and was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany.
Michael relocated his family in 2001 to Wilkes-Barre and was employed by Blue Cross of Northeast Pennsylvania as an administrative assistant in the Pharmacy Reimbursement Department.
Michael was a sports lover and was an avid fan of the New York Knicks and the New York Jets.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Nathan Reid Jr.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 38 years, the former Patricia (Pat) Astwood; his sons, Michael Leon Reid Jr., New York City; and Jamarr Reid, Wilkes-Barre; his daughter, Trenaya Michelle Reid, Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, Jade Reid, Jamarr Reid Jr., Justus Reid, Marcus Reid and Mo'nae Lenaya Reid; brothers, Kenneth Reid, Anthony Reid, Nauture Reid, Reginald Jones and Steven Reid; sisters, Donna Reid and Lateef Reid; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, 465 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with Bishop Wallace E. Smith of New Covenant Christian Fellowship officiating.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Interment will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with military honors.
