Nancy Abbott Cohen of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born on West River Street in Wilkes-Barre, where she resided her entire life, she was the youngest child born to the late Bernard S. and Ruth Butler Abbott Cohen. After graduating from E.L. Meyers High School and Wyoming Seminary, Nancy furthered her education at Syracuse University, Wilkes College, King's College and Marywood University.
She was employed by the Osterhout Free Library, the Wilkes College Library and by King's College Library in periodicals and journals until 1995 when she retired. She then volunteered at the Luzerne County Historical Society, where she was a member and enjoyed researching genealogy. Her ancestors were original settlers of the Wyoming Valley and she was very proud of that.
She was a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Wyoming Valley Chapter of DAR, the Wyoming Monument Association and the First Presbyterian Church, Wilkes-Barre, where she served as a deacon, elder and taught Sunday school. Nancy was currently serving on the church's Christian Education Committee. She had great faith and never complained about her illnesses.
Nancy was always interested in people, current events and enjoyed talking to several lifelong friends every day.
