Nell Socash

Nell Socash, 86, of Exeter passed away peacefully Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the home of her son Kenneth, after a brief battle with cancer.

Born Nell Sharka on March 27, 1927, Mrs. Socash was a life resident of Exeter. She was a graduate of Exeter High School, Class of 1945.

She worked briefly at the naval shipyards in Philadelphia, and afterward returned to Exeter where she married her husband Andrew in 1947.

Prior to her retirement, Nell worked for many years in the garment industry, and she was an expert seamstress.

She loved gardening and raised beautiful flowers, vegetables and fruits. She was an excellent cook and baker and an expert at canning her garden's harvest. She was once active in the Wyoming Valley Art League, and loved taking photographs, shopping, and decorating for the holidays.

In addition to her parents, Nell was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew; infant son, Richard; son, Donald; brother, Albert Yance; and sisters, Ann Lauracella and Constance Anderson.

Nell is survived by her sons, Kenneth Socash and his wife, Kim, Exeter; David Socash and his wife, Susan, Wyoming; grandchildren, Thomas Socash-Kutza and his wife Ann, Connecticut; Amanda Socash Rosario and her husband, David, Kingston; Cody Socash, Exeter; Melanie and Scott Socash, Wyoming; great-grandson, Harrison; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank hospice for their wonderful caregivers, as well as Dr. Greenwald, Dr. Argenio and the nurses and staff of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday from Bednarski Funeral Home, 168 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Cecilia's Church, St. Barbara's Parish, Exeter. Interment will be held in St. Casimir's Cemetery, Pittston. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Celtic Hospice Community Care, 601 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, PA 18704 or to a charity of donor's choice.
