Paul F. Howell

Paul F. Howell, 71, of Mocanaqua died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was a patient.

Born Oct. 11, 1941, in Nanticoke, he was a son of the late Chester and Caroline Bunor Howell.

He was a 1960 graduate of the former Newport Township High School, attended Luzerne County Community College and graduated from Bloomsburg University.

He served in the U.S. Army as an MP during a tour of duty in Germany.

He was a member of Labor Local Union 130 and retired in 1998 from the Susquehanna power plant.

He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish/St. Mary's Church, Mocanaqua, and American Legion Post 350, Nanticoke, and also belonged to the Leisure Hunting Lodge, Dushore.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed all sports, especially Penguins hockey. He loved to mow lawns for the neighbors.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Thomas, David and James Howell.

Surviving are his devoted wife of 47 years, the former Carol Panetta, whom he married July 31, 1965; two sons, Darren Howell and his wife, Bette, Le Raysville; and Brian Howell, Hunlock Creek; grandchildren, Taya and Paige Howell; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Mayo Funeral Home Inc., 77 N. Main St., Shickshinny, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish/St. Mary's Church, Mocanaqua, with his pastor, the Rev. Donald Williams, as celebrant.

Burial, with military services provided by Shickshinny American Legion Post 495, will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Mocanaqua.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
