Raymond Morgan

Raymond Morgan, 96, of Wilkes-Barre died Wednesday morning, Nov. 14, 2012, at the Commonwealth Hospice of Wilkes-Barre.

He was born in Plymouth, a son of the late Evan and Margaret Parry Morgan.

He graduated from Ward P. Davenport High School, Plymouth, Class of 1934. He continued his education at Penn State with a bachelor's degree in poultry husbandry and later earned an associate degree in hotel and motel management from Luzerne County Community College.

Mr. Morgan was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Army Air Corps as a flying corps master in France and Belgium.

After graduating from Penn State, he opened up a poultry farm consisting of 10,000 chickens and collected hundreds of eggs daily. He had also been employed as a Pennsylvania state poultry inspector, and the foreman of the Tri County Producers Pride Egg Co-op in Worcester. He later taught hotel and motel management courses at Luzerne County Community College.

Mr. Morgan was a member of First Welsh Baptist church of Plymouth, the Shawnee Senior Citizens and several veterans organizations.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Janet Jenkins, Mary Morgan and Isabel Morgan, and brothers, Robert and George Morgan.

He is survived by his wife, the former Laura Jones, with whom he would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary next week; daughters, Mary Margaret Morgan, Oil City; and Laura Alice Morgan, Plymouth Meeting; a son, Raymond Evan Morgan, Gloucester, Va.; grandchildren, Matthew and David Gundrum, Brittani Morgan and Raymond Evan Morgan Jr.; great-grandchildren, Jason, Kaelynn and Raymond Evan Morgan III; sister, Annie Davis, San Antonio, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are by William A. Reese Funeral Chapel, rear 56 Gaylord Ave., Plymouth.
