Raymond W. Birk

Raymond W. Birk, 84, of Bear Creek Township died Friday afternoon, May 3, 2013, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital with his loving family at his bedside.

Raymond was born in Wilkes-Barre on Oct. 1, 1928, a son of the late George and Agnes Behm Birk. He was a graduate of GAR High School, and had been employed for many years by the Wilkes-Barre Area School District at Dodson Elementary school, retiring as head custodian.

He was a member of St. Andrew's Parish in Wilkes-Barre and a longtime member of St. Boniface Church in Wilkes-Barre. He also was a member of the Bear Creek/Buck Township Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosemary E. Birk; and by a son, Raymond (R.J.) Birk; along with seven brothers and sisters.

Surviving are his wife of 14 years, Carolyn, at home; step-daughters, Carol Burke and Joan Mc Donald, Wilkes-Barre; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Andrew's Parish, 316 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
