Ruth Ann Voelker, 56, of Larksville passed away Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
She was born Feb. 4, 1957, in Osaka, Japan, to Donald M. Griffin of California and the late Virginia Griffin of Phoenix, Ariz. From Japan to California, Kansas, Nebraska, Alaska, Texas and Pennsylvania, she has made her last move to Heaven.
Ruth was married to her soul mate of 39 years, Ron Voelker.
She was employed by Sallie Mae and Guardian Elder Care until congestive heart failure forced her to take a medical leave of absence. She also owned the Fisherman's Wife Antique Shop in Larksville.
Ruth had the light of life given to her with two daughters, Julie Ann Grodis and her companion, Joseph Hughes, of Nanticoke, and Rebecca Leah Voelker/Pinthong and Tech Sgt. Sarayuth Pinthong of San Antonio, Texas. Later in life she received Holly Marie Gallagher of Avoca. Ruth's grandchildren and godchildren implanted a constant smile on her face: Tillie Elizabeth Grodis, Lydia Moon Pinthong, Jayda Sheridyn Gallagher, Violet Rain Pinthong, Eliza Jane Hughes, Ethan Joseph Hughes, Emily and Katie Anderson, godchildren from Bear Creek, and Sophie the dog. Ruth is survived and loved by all of the above and her very close family, including brothers and sisters-in-law, Rick and Mair Voelker, Wilkes-Barre; Betty and Andy Harnichar, New York; four sisters from Phoenix, Ariz., and many nieces and nephews.
Ruth, who would give the shirt off of her back (which was how we met!), continued to give through the Gift of Life with her eyes, organs and tissue.
The family will receive friends from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave,, Wilkes-Barre.
Memorial donations may be made to Ruth's Place House of Hope, P.O. Box 254, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18703.
