Steven Schonwetter, 55, of Baltimore, Md., a loving and devoted husband, brother and uncle, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer, in John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.
Son of the late Martin and Sarah Scherz Schonwetter, Steven was born in Wilkes-Barre and was a graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School. He continued his education at Carnegie Mellon University, with a bachelor's degree in engineering and business. He was past president of Fit Rite Headwear Inc., a safety equipment manufacturing company, and most recent was site manager at Baltimore/Washington Airport ARINC. Steven was a past president of Congregation Ohav Zedek and Seligman J. Strauss Lodge of B'nai B'rith, founding member of Frei lox and Bagels Klezmer Band, active with the Jaycees Jr. Chamber of Commerce, the Diversity Institute at Misericordia University, Little Theatre, and was a former member of the JCC.
He was preceded in death by niece Melanie McDowell, in 2006; and great-nephew, Joshua Good, in 2002.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, the former Roopa Adhikari, Baltimore, Md.; sisters, Roni Good, Kingston; Patricia Schonwetter, Noxen; father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Adhikari, Calcutta, India; sisters-in-law, Deepa and Puja, Calcutta, India; nieces and nephews, Richard and Jeanette Good; Meghan, Liam and Adrienne Bonner, great-nieces and great-nephews, Gavin and Juliana Good and Miles and Ruby Pickel.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, 348 S. River St., Wilkes-Barre, with Rabbi Raphael Nemetsky officiating. Interment will be in Ohav Zedek Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Shiva will be observed at the home of Roni Good, 44 N. Atherton Ave., Kingston, Monday through Thursday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 p.m.
