Thomas J. Davis, 89, of Hanover Township died Thursday evening, July 25, 2013, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital with his family by his side.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late William and Julia Cosgrove Davis.
Thomas was a graduate of Elmer L. Meyers High School and was a Navy veteran of World War II
and the Korean conflict
. He served aboard the USS Wilkes-Barre, the USS West Virginia and the USS Tuscaloosa.
He was a tool and die maker and was a partner in Davis Tool and Machine Shop of Wilkes-Barre, and he also worked for Atlas Chain and Cable of West Pittston for 20 years and last for Owens-Illinois of Jenkins Township for 10 years, until his retirement.
Thomas was a member of St. Aloysius Church, Wilkes-Barre, and Hanover American Legion Post 609.
Thomas and his wife, Dorothy, met and spent many years dancing at the Spinning Wheel and were members of the Big Band Society for 13 years.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Leonard, William and Alvin, and sister, Margret Scott.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, the former Dorothy Leedock; sons, William and his wife, Jody Davis, Wilkes-Barre; and Thomas and his wife, Susan Davis, Kingston; daughters, Deborah Davis, Lake Worth, Fla.; and Christine and her husband, Todd Kurash, Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, Matthew Davis, Emily Bergen, Kaila, Kyle and Koel Kurash; nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be held at 8:45 a.m. Monday from Corcoran Funeral Home Inc., 20 S. Main St., Plains Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Aloysius Church, Wilkes-Barre.
Interment with military honors will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
