Thomas J. Padden Jr., 74, of Sugar Notch died Sunday, May 4, 2014, in Celtic Hospice, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the beloved son of the late Thomas Padden Sr. and Frances McConlogue Padden, served in the U.S. Army and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and the Parachutist Badge.
Tom worked in local area coal mines and, prior to retiring, worked in the construction industry, including the construction of Berwick Power Plant.
He was a member of Holy Family Church, Sugar Notch, a member of the Laborers' International Union of North America Local 130, and other civic and religious organizations.
He loved to fish and camp and was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan.
Mr. Padden was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Cecilia Dudkiewicz; son, Tony Padden; and sister. Nancy Padden.
He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and cherished brother, who will be deeply missed by his wife, the former Bonnie Dymond; sons, Thomas III and his wife, Jane, and James and his wife, Marie; daughters, Cynthia Mullin and her husband, Patrick, Joan Padden and her companion, Gene Adams, Sandra Stoodley and her husband, Cyril, and Nancy Derby and her companion, Dave Viti; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings, Jim Padden, Patsy Mitchell, Rose Dombroski, Betty Myers, Anita Godumski, Robert (Bob) Padden, Mary Koons, Gene Padden, Joseph Padden and John Padden; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 9 a.m. Thursday from Lehman Family Funeral Service Inc., 689 Hazle Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Sugar Notch. The Rev. Joseph Kakareka, pastor, will officiate.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
