Vincent J. Gubitoso

Vincent J. Gubitoso, 80, of Pittston passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, in the Manhattan VA Hospital, New York City, N.Y.

Born in Pittston on Dec. 5, 1932, he was the son of the late Vincent and Anna Petroziello Gubitoso.

He was a graduate of Pittston High School and received an associate degree from the Pennsylvania State University.

He served in and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army (Korean conflict); he was awarded an Occupation Medal (Germany) a Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal for his efforts.

He was a life member of St. Joseph Marello Parish (formerly Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church), Pittston, and its Holy Name Society, as well as the choir.

Prior to retirement, he was self-employed in the sales and service of business machines.

He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle and will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph (Cubby), Alphonso (Farina), Floyd and Michael Gubitoso, and sisters, Jetta Cockerham and Theresa Tribbet.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Jeanette Rubbico Gubitoso; children, Vincent Gubitoso and his wife, Mary Jo, Kansas; Joseph Gubitoso and his fiancee, Desiree Kaspriski, Pittston; JoAnn Sponholz and her husband, Joseph, Australia; Michael Gubitoso and Debbie Ostrowski, Pittston; and Alphonso Gubitoso and his wife, Britney, Pittston; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Gloria Connors, Exeter; and Patricia Gilroy, New Jersey; numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Marello Parish, 237 William St., Pittston. Those attending are asked to go directly to church on Monday morning.

Interment will follow in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.

Friends may call at Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William St., Pittston, from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
