Walter Paul Gottlieb

Walter Paul Gottlieb, 90, formerly of Highland Drive, Wilkes-Barre, and a guest at Tiffany Court, Kingston, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014.

Born Sept. 9, 1923, in Wilkes-Barre, the son of the late Paul and Catherine Gavron Gottlieb, he was a graduate of Coughlin High School.

Walter was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Church and was a past member of the Holy Name Society and the Sarmatian's Men Club. He was a fourth-degree member of Council 302 of the Knights of Columbus, Wilkes-Barre, and Plains American Legion Post 558.

He retired from the Wilkes-Barre Post Office, where he was employed as a letter carrier and supervisor. Walter served as president of Branch 115 of the National Association of Letter Carriers and president of the Board of Directors of the now Corner Post Federal Credit Union.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Walter was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Celestine Pienta Gottlieb, on May 25, 1998. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Mahon, Estelle Ronde and Lucille Krugel, and brothers, Benjamin, Leon and Julian Gottlieb.

Surviving are his daughters, Susan Bechetti and husband, Daniel, Bear Creek; and Mary Lou Shank and husband, Jack, Charlotte, N.C.; son, Paul Gottlieb and wife, Mary Ann, Plains Township; grandchildren, Daniel H. Bechetti Jr. and Gabrielle Gottlieb; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday from Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S. Main St., Plains Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Ss. Peter and Paul Church.

Interment with military rites will be in Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Plains Township.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
