Wendell John Thoman

Wendell John Thoman, 91, of the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre died unexpectingly on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at his home.

Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Marion Buk Thoman.

Wendell was born in Wilkes-Barre on March 6, 1922. He was the son of the late John Thoman and Hannah Reed Thoman. He was a graduate of Coughlin High School, Class of 1940.

He was a U.S. Merchant Marine veteran having served aboard ocean-going merchant ships in service to the United States during World War II. He retired from RCA Corp, Dunmore. He was a former member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral, Wilkes-Barre. He was an avid bowler and a member of the Triangle Club, Wilkes-Barre. He enjoyed baseball and hockey, and was a great sports fan. He was a member of the Coughlin Letterman's Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rosmond Corrigan; his step-sisters, Mary Jones and Catherine Peterson.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Marion, are his son, William W. Thoman, and his wife, Noreen; and his daughter, Marianne W. Dunsavage and her husband, David; and his grandchildren, Michael Dunsavage and Marina Dunsavage.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from the Simon S. Russin Funeral Home, 136 Maffett St., Plains Township, with the Rev. Joseph Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the Eastern Orthodox Lawn of Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas, with military honors.

Friends and family may call Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. A Parastas Service will be held at 6 p.m.
