William J. Hahn, 92, of Hanover Township passed away peacefully Monday, March 31, 2014, at Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre.
Born July 27, 1921, in Plymouth, he was the son of the late John and Margaret Hobbs Hahn, and was raised by his uncle, the late Joseph Hobbs.
He was a very active member of Cherry Street Bible Church, Plymouth.
He was a graduate of Plymouth High School, Class of 1939, and graduated from Bloomsburg College, where he received a degree in secondary education in chemistry.
He was a U.S. Army
veteran serving during World War II
in the European Theater in France and the Asiatic Pacific Theater in the Philippines. He was a member of American Legion Shawnee Post 463, Plymouth.
Prior to his retirement, Bill was employed as a chemist by U.S. Radium, Bloomsburg, for 25 years. He also taught chemistry classes at Bloomsburg University for many years.
He was a past member of the American Chemical Society and of the PSEA.
In addition to his parents and his uncle, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Jeanne M. O'Boyle, in 1993.
Surviving are his niece and caregivers, Judy Centak and her husband, Joseph. He is also survived by a niece, Colleen Zupancic, Wilkes-Barre; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday from S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 W. Main St., Plymouth. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
