Leonard C. Straub

Leonard C. Straub, 83, of Glen Lyon, passed away Monday, Sept. 4, 2017, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Kingston on Oct. 15, 1933, he was the son of the late Joseph Sr. and Catherine Labatch Straub.

Len attended Kingston schools and he served in the U.S. Army from July 1956 to July 1958.

He was employed by Raymond R. Hedden Construction Co. and the Laborers Local 130 until his retirement.

Len was a member of Holy Spirit Parish/St. Adalbert's Church, Glen Lyon, and was a member of its Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Newport Twp. Consolidated Fire Company, the Italian American Sporting Club and was a founding member of the Newport Twp. Firemen's Community Ambulance.

He was an avid supporter of all the Greater Nanticoke area sports teams, an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins, but mostly Len loved to spend his time with his beloved family.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Florence O'Keefe and Elizabeth Frederick, and a brother, Joseph Straub Jr.

Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, the former Betty Gavrish Straub; loving daughter, Jane Straub; brother, Thomas Straub; special family members, Daniel and Leona Kowalski; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday from George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 211 W. Main St., Glen Lyon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Holy Spirit Parish/St. Adalbert's Church, with the Rev. Louis Kaminski officiating.

Interment with military honors will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Glen Lyon.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday.
