Clemence Scott Obituary

Clemence A. Scott of Sheatown, Newport Twp., passed away Friday, July 14, 2017, at Guardian Center, Sheatown.

He was born Feb. 5, 1922, in Wanamie, the son of the late Peter and Bertha Meshinski Scott and the stepson of the late Stanley Tomkiewicz.

Clem was a 1940 graduate of Newport Twp. High School. After graduation, he was a company clerk at the Civilian Conservation Camp, Waynesboro.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was a tail gunner on a B17, the Flying Fortress.

Clem was injured in an airplane crash in Hunter Field, Georgia, and spent 16 months in Army hospitals in Georgia and California. Upon his discharge from the Army, he enrolled in Wilkes College and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in commerce and finance with a major in accounting.

Clem was an Internal Revenue Service agent for more than 36 years.

He was a member of St. Faustina Parish Church, Holy Child Parish, and also a member of American Legion Post 971.

Clem was interested in current events, traveling, reading and gardening.

Clem was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Butka Scott; sister, Dolores Scott; and a niece, Pamela Daubert.

He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Mariellen Scott; a niece and nephews.

The American Legion Post 971 will conduct a military funeral at 10 a.m. Tuesday from Grontkowski Funeral Home P.C., 51 W. Green St., Nanticoke with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Faustina Parish Church, 520 Hanover St., Nanticoke, with the Rev. James Nash officiating. Interment will be in St. Adalbert's Cemetery, Glen Lyon.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mariellen,

I want you to know how honored I was to get to know your dad while working with him at GECC. I so enjoyed my conversations with him and could see what an amazing and wonderful man he was. It was easy to see how devoted you were to each other. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
