Bernice Kirner Obituary

Bernice Kirner, 86, formerly of Nanticoke, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2017, at Celtic Hospice, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.

Bernice was born May 26, 1930, in Newport Center. She was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Sagun) Stawasz.

Bernice was a graduate of the Class of 1947, Newport High School, and the Class of 1950 of the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital School of Nursing.

After graduation, Bernice worked as a registered nurse at Barrett Memorial Hospital in Paterson, N.J., as a supervisor of the operating room, also at Valley View Hospital in New Jersey. After retirement in 1985, she moved back to her home Nanticoke.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert W. Kirner, and her brother, John Stawasz.

Bernice is survived by her sister, Teresa Gruber; niece, Pam and husband, David Steever; great-nieces; and great-nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Faustina's Parish, main site, 520 S. Hanover St., Nanticoke. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are in the care of Stanley S. Stegura Funeral Home Inc., 614 S. Hanover St., Nanticoke.
